Urbanscapes features a collection of paintings created by emerging British artist Kit Kingsbury including a new series of small-scale works inspired via a recent six-month residency in Japan and funded by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Arts Council England. The paintings attempt to query the viewer’s perception of reality.
Based on the Structuralist premise that one’s concept of reality is conjured up from an incomprehensible sum of stimuli, the works employ an array of indistinct and obscure motifs drawn from photographic negatives of urban environments the artist has known and lived.
As part of a wider audience development plan 36 Lime Street has recently developed a gallery space. A pilot programme of exhibitions and events, has been co-ordinated to run from May through to November 2009 which will encompass painting, sculpture, installation, drawing and three-dimensional design.
