Measure Twice, Cut Once is an exhibition of new works by Newcastle based artist Katie Watson. The exhibited works are part of an ongoing series which toy with the universal language of visual information and the abstract qualities of everyday banal forms. The works investigate a process of working through and consolidating archives of diagrammatic language into playful compositions.
The paintings and objects examine a dwindling ‘fix-it’ culture and celebrate traditional methods of construction and maintenance. Visual ‘gap-filling’ exercises are generated through the reappropriation of disorientating fragments of found diagrammatic material.
The former 36 Lime Street Gallery was established in 2009 as an artist run space to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to experiment and take risks with new work. Selected by committee from an open call, 8 proposals are selected and exhibited throughout the year.
The gallery space continues to provide a platform as 36.
