Calculated Fascinations is Jack Connor Kemp’s first solo show. His recent work juxtaposes images associated with his recent and distant past, interweaving various references in his paintings that play on the idea of visual skeuomorphism; designed to trigger recognition and associations in the viewer. These semi-autobiographical works invite the viewer, via shared relations, to identify with aspects of his character. Kemp’s collection of visual research has been archived over many years and include a vast collection of images sourced from childhood memories, photographs and the Internet. The works suggest a subliminal nostalgia, a visual timeline reflecting his current pre occupations. For 36 Gallery Kemp will present a series of new paintings and sculptures that will question the concept of representation.
The former 36 Lime Street Gallery was established in 2009 as an artist run space to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to experiment and take risks with new work. Selected by committee from an open call, 8 proposals are selected and exhibited throughout the year.
The gallery space continues to provide a platform as 36.
