Ouseburn Warehouse Studios and Workshops, 36 Lime Street, Ouseburn, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 2PQ

Join Newcastle University students Nada Ibrahim and Jasmine Stephenson at the launch of their short film, behind the scenes at 36 Lime Street. The film captures the history and heritage of a culturally significant building in the heart of a post-industrial landscape. Formally a flax mill, designed by John Dobson, the grade II listed building houses up to 50 artists, designers and makers across 5 floors.

Using archival material and personal interviews from the creatives based in the building, the short film draws out a rich variety of stories and memories.

Documentary Filmmaker and Reader in Film Practice at Newcastle University, Dr Ian MacDonald comments “The film captures the people, the ethos, the heritage and the importance of 36 Lime Street to the local area.”

Supported by Newcastle University Institute for Creative Arts Practice Nada Ibrahim and Jasmine Stephenson were commissioned to spend time at 36 Lime Street and participated in the regular Open Studios event. They will launch their film in the newly refurbished gallery at 36 Lime Street as part of the annual Late Shows event 19th May. Screened throughout the evening, both creatives will take part in a Q&A at the launch between 18.00 – 19.00. The premiere will be followed by a drop in zine making session with Fine Art Lecturer & Community Artist Theresa Easton in studio 2B at 36 Lime Street.
