'Legion Series' 2015
Joanne has worked as a professional glass artist and designer since 2000, and spent time designing for Edinburgh Crystal, and as a resident artist at the National Glass Centre, before joining Lime Street Studios in December 2012.
Joanne’s practice ranges from design for the glassware industry, wall pieces for corporate and domestic interiors, to sculptural glass artworks. Her glass has been shown in numerous galleries around the UK, as well as in exhibitions in Europe and America, and is featured in several publications on British Glass.
Alongside her practice Joanne is researching glass at The University of Sunderland, for her PhD, due for completion in 2015. The research has developed innovative techniques to create forms and images trapped as air bubbles, suspended within a glass space.
In her recent sculptural work Joanne examines how immaterial elements can be exposed or preserved through glass, exploring the concept of making visible the intangible, using air as a metaphor for thought, memory and absence.
