Jonny Bainbridge is an intuitive abstract painter and stone artist. He paints primarily with oils and mixed media on board, as well as creating outdoor works and installations in stone and mosaic.
In recent times he has exhibited in galleries in Newcastle, Bristol, London, Bath and Frome.
Although deliberately not adhering to any particular painting style, Jonny’s most recent and current work has been in creating bright, immersive and evocative paintings, drawing inspiration from his fascination of life in its microscopic form and how the observed patterns, energies and formulas of this cellular world often mirror life in the heavens above us, on an interstellar level. The microcosm and macrocosm residing within us.
As above so below. As within so without.
He strives to give his paintings a living and almost sentient presence. To be able to change and react as time, light and shadow play across them throughout the day. His techniques in achieving these effects include working in changing intensity and direction of light, both artificial and natural, and extensive layering and glazing.
With his stone art, his inspiration is also drawn another underlying fundamental aspect of life. The Golden Ratio. Using the numbers and formula of the Fibonacci sequence, he bends walls, footpaths and mosaic into the unmistakable and timeless spiral of Phi.
Art of life and life is art.
