Painting | Printmaking | Drawing

Louise Bradley is a visual artist, making drawings, paintings and prints.  Patterns, colour, line, nature, symbolism, metaphor and visual language all play a part in her work.

Themes of change and transformation, fertility, beauty and the life cycle occupy her practice, often with plants, flowers and the natural world as symbols.  The thread running through all the work is a mixture of the biological and the botanical as a universally accessible theme.

Works are often developed from detailed drawings made directly from life.  Louise arrives at a way of making an image using experimentation with techniques and materials and exploits drawing, both observational and abstract, which remains an underpinning medium for its directness, purity and simplicity.

Media includes pencil, pen, oil paint, acrylic paint, ink, watercolour, silk screen printing, woodcut and monoprinting.

Drawing remains an underpinning medium for its directness, purity and simplicity.  Louise makes her prints at Northern Print in the Ouseburn.

Louise also works as a freelance artist in learning, education and the community, teaching at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead as well as working for many schools, colleges, charities and arts organisations. See her website for more details, news and exhibition updates. Studio visits can be made by appointment, or at the 36 Lime Street Open Studios events through the year.
