36 Lime Street film captures the history and heritage of our culturally significant building in the heart of a post-industrial landscape. Formally a flax mill, designed by John Dobson, the grade II listed building houses up to 50 artists, designers and makers across 5 floors. Established in the early 1980’s the building has contributed to the regeneration of the Ouseburn Valley.
Mixing archival material and personal interviews from artists based in the building, filmmakers Nada Ibrahim and Jasmine Stephenson draw out a rich variety of stories and memories.
Commissioned in October 2022 with support from Newcastle University’s Institute for Creative Arts Practice , Ibrahim and Stephenson spent time in the building and premiered their film at 36 Lime Street during the Late Shows 2023.
